Activites funding from Devon Communities Foundation will help to support.
Ilfracombe Community Land Trust is delighted to thank Devon Community Foundation for their generous grant of £1,000. This is, by their own definition, a “Small Grant,” but it will make a massive difference to us.

Alan – front row, 5th from leftWe are delighted that one of our Board members, Alan Bannister, was among the winners of the 2024 “Pride in Ilfracombe” awards. These awards are given by Ilfracombe Town Council to citizens who have made an outstanding contribution to their community through voluntary efforts. This year they were presented at the Carlton Hotel on 10 October by Deputy Mayor Mark Fay and our MP, Ian Roome.
The list of things Alan does is endless but amongst them he runs websites for several community organisations, including our own.

Chair of Ilfracombe Community Land Trust, Mark Read, speaking from the Bicclescombe site.
On July 30th, the evening edition of “Spotlight” came live from Ilfracombe – and featured two members of the Board of our Community Land Trust. After an introduction which set the scene by contrasting Ilfracombe’s beauty, historic interest and visitor attractions with the unseen reality of deprivation, the focus switched to the town’s housing crisis.

Just sometimes things come together just right. This was very much the case when North Devon Council were successful in obtaining brownfield site infrastructure funding for the derelict Bicclescombe Nursery at the same time as Ilfracombe’s newly created Community Land Trust (ICLT) began looking for a first site.

Members of the ICLT meeting visitors to the display stand
Board members of Ilfracombe Community Land Trust were invited to have a stall at the annual Ilfracombe and District Business and Tourism Association event on November 6th. This year the event was held at the Lantern Centre and the ICLT exhibited alongside a range of other businesses and organisations.
It was an opportunity to network and inform businesses in town about Land Trusts and what they do. Board members had some interesting discussions and there was useful feedback. The stall had a display of our current project to build 16 units of social housing at the Bicclescombe Nursery Site, as well as information and leaflets about our ambitions as a Land Trust. We also managed to recruit several new members.
