Ilfracombe Community Land Trust (ICLT) was formed in 2022 by a group of local people who wanted to do whatever they could to ease the appalling shortage of affordable rented housing in Ilfracombe.

A Community Land Trust seemed the best way forward. Unlike a property developer, it’s a non-profit organisation. It’s set up and run by local volunteers, and its job is to benefit the community in which we all live.

A Community Land Trust can own land or assets such as houses, and once it does, these are protected – they can’t be sold or developed except in a way that benefits the local community. If the Trust does make any profits, these too must be put to work for the good of the community.

“The purpose of Ilfracombe Community Land Trust is to create affordable, secure homes for local people to rent with confidence. These become locally owned assets that can serve Ilfracombe community for good.”

Everyone’s voice matters! Here is information on the founding Board Members but the success of ICLT will depend on local individuals and groups getting involved and sharing their opinions, skills and abilities.

If you live or work in one of the Ilfracombe Town Council Wards and you care about the shortage of affordable rented housing here, please join us. We know we can’t solve all of Ilfracombe’s housing problems but, working together, we are determined to make a difference.
